South Lake Wiffle Ball Story

It all began the summer of 2015 when Cade Messer had a dream, a dream to create his very own wiffle ball league. The league was named the MLWB (inspired by MLW Wiffle) and had its own website, rule book and team names. Plans ended up falling through for the 2015 season, but Messer’s dream did not.

In the spring of 2016, Messer gave his wiffle ball dream another shot as he founded South Lake Wiffle Ball. The league originated with just 10 players and 5 teams, but it was enough to get the ball rolling. Halfway through the 2016 regular season the league announced that it would host an end of the year tournament called the “South Lake Wiffle Ball Classic”. It was not an instant success as only 8 teams from 2 different divisions competed for bragging rights, but it was just enough to kick off future successes.

In 2017 the South Lake Wiffle Ball Classic was brought back for the 2nd year in a row and it was a huge success! South Lake Wiffle Ball announced that all proceeds from the event would be donated to Jackie’s Cause which raises money and awareness for kids with spinal cord cancer. The following year in 2018 the tournament nearly doubled in size and was officially the largest wiffle ball tournament in the state of Iowa. Since 2016, over $15,000 has been raised for Jackie’s Cause.

Heading into the future, South Lake Wiffle Ball and Cade Messer plan to continue hosting the South Lake Wiffle Ball Classic for many more years to come. To continue following their journey check them out on social media, accounts listed below.
